URGENT NEED!
ABTR Parvo Puppies Critical Care - Vet Bill
American Boston Terrier Rescue has just taken custody of two
critically ill four-month-old Boston Terrier puppies. This brother and sister pair are named
Martini and Rossi, and they've got a *bad* case of parvo. Add to that a raging case of Demodex,
and these poor little babies are suffering and they need our help.
Won't you please consider pledging just $10 to help these neglected little puppies get well? ABTR
is committed to doing all we can for them, but our resources have been stretched enormously over
the past year and we really need some help to give these little puppies the chance they deserve.
We've set this project goal at just $500, but as you'll read below, the vet bills could easily run
4x that amount. Even if we reach our goal of $500, please know that we started out with a very
conservative goal just to ensure that we could help these deserving pups. It is almost certain
that their vetting will exceed $1000, so we're grateful for each and every contribution. Thank
you.
ABTR is a 501c3 charitable organization and every penny you donate is
tax-deductible.

of themany stories of severely health and/or age compromised dogs that we have taken, vetted and
placed in loving homes, which is why we need your financial and volunteer support.

Unfortunately, not all the babies that ABTR tries to save are adopted. Some like Wee Willie who was picked up by Animal control who contacted us and was
rushed to the vet do not make it. A lot of the seniors stay with us until the end of their
days being loved, cared for and vetted as if they were a member of the foster's family. These vet
bills need to be paid as well which is why we ask for your donations.

IF YOU WANT TO SURRENDER A DOG
in North Texas (DFW/Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding areas) /Southern Oklahoma/West Arkansas/Northern Louisiana,
please contact us via our voicemail at (972) 407-4440.
ABTR accepts all Bostons no matter how old they are or what is wrong
with them healthwise as we have space available in our program. We DO
NOT accept human or dog aggressive dogs as we do not have any 1 dog
foster homes. We do have a waiting list and Kill shelters that work with
us get priority over any other dogs on the waiting list.
We WILL NOT return calls that are just asking questions about dogs
available.
DOG INFORMATION IS ON THESE WEBPAGES!!!
PLEASE READ IT
IF you
have SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT A CERTAIN DOG, please feel free to email
them to Wanda , otherwise, all the
information that I have about the dog is right here on this page.
We are
volunteers and our time is limited and we prefer to spend time taking
care of the dogs instead of answering questions that have already been
answered below. If you are interested in adoption, please fill out our
application. THANK YOU!!!

We recommend anyone adopting a dog from us to use a
crate to prevent any damage to your home or belongings due to separation anxiety that may not
manifest itself here. We further recommend that you take the dog to OBEDIENCE classes to help
teach your dog to become a good member of your family and to help you bond together.
|
|
ATTENTION: When you are approved is when you get to
choose a dog from the ones that are currently available that I think will suit your needs, IF you
are ready to adopt at that time !!! IF YOU ARE NOT READY to adopt at the time you are approved,
then I will NOT hold a particular dog for you as I need to get these dogs out of here and not
have them holding spaces that another dog needs for 2 or more weeks waiting on someone to get back from vacation, etc. Once you are ready to adopt after you are approved is when you can choose a dog from the ones available. If I only had one or 2 dogs in it would not matter, but there are some weeks I get up to 8 new dogs into rescue and I need the space. Thank you for your understanding.
|
|
Other dogs MAY BE available that may not be listed yet as I don't always have time to update the
page daily. Some of these dogs above may have adoptions pending or have been adopted out as I
don't always have time to update daily. BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT A DIFFERENT BT THAN THE ONE YOU APPLY FOR if the dog does not fit into the family dynamics or has been already adopted by someone approved before you. We do work the apps in the order we get them. Please fill out an application if you are interested in adopting a BT. Thank you
|
|
For local adopters, we do NOT let you take dogs on a trial basis, either you
want to adopt a particular dog or you do not want to adopt a dog. These dogs
have been through enough upheaval in their lives, moving them into a new
home for a few days or weeks and then back to rescue would traumatize them
even more. So, please do not ask me about taking the dogs on a trial basis as
the answer is NO. Be sure you want to adopt a dog before you adopt it. We
are always willing to take a dog back that doesn't work out, but we try to find
the right fit the first time. I am looking for homes who will consider these
dogs part of the family, not just dogs to try out and return if they are not
perfect. No dog is perfect, whether it is rescued or not.
|
|
PLEASE NOTE: IF THE PICTURES ARE JUST A SQUARE WITH A X IN IT LIKE THIS , THEN IT MEANS THAT I HAVEN'T TAKEN A PICTURE AND POSTED IT YET!!! I WILL POST
A PICTURE AS SOON AS I TAKE ONE.
|
Other dogs MAY BE available that may not be listed yet and some of these dogs above may have
adoptions pending or have been adopted out as I don't always have time to update daily. Thank you.
|
|
PLEASE NOTE: Adoption pending means that I am just waiting on the adoption fee or transport for
the dog to go to their new home.
|
|
Please do not apply with every Texas rescue, just apply with the one that has the dog you want to
adopt. Often we are working the same applications and that wastes our time when we could be
working different apps and re-home more dogs. Thank you for your understanding!!!
ADOPTIONS ARE BY APPLICATION ONLY!!!! |
|
IF you have SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT A CERTAIN DOG, please feel free to email them to me,
otherwise all the information that I have about the dog is right here on this page.
I process the apps in the order that I receive them, WHEN I have time between vetting, fetching dogs, home visits, my life, etc. Sometimes it is a couple of weeks before I start processing your application due to the busyness of my schedule. IF you get another dog in the meantime, please have the courtesy to send me an email and let me know.
The Adoption Process Is: 1) You fill out and email app to me. If there is anything that you think I need to know that I have not asked you or you have certain requirements or traits you are looking for in a dog, please put it in the application.
2) I check your references.
3) If those pass, then I arrange a home visit.
4) If that passes, then you can adopt a dog from the ones that are available at
that time. A dog that you may be interested in may already have had a number of
applications already in on him that were processed before yours, so please be
willing to adopt another dog that I may have come in that suits your needs.
While pictures are nice to see, looks are not everything. Personality and
actions are what determine the best dog for you.

DOGS CURRENTLY
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
THESE ARE ABTR DOGS
ABTR Is Responsible For The Care Of These Dogs
Updates:
Due to the large amount of time it takes to care for the dogs, it is difficult to frequently
update the individual dog's bios. The dogs here are in a loving safe environment, so if the
information provided has been listed for a while, chances are the dog has seen some improvement and hopefully has blossomed. The longer a dog is here, the more we can tell you about his or her personality and make a good family match when we do your finalinterview.
Note: Hundreds of wonderful dogs have found forever homes through American Boston Terrier Rescue. We have set up two pages to feature and honor some of these dogs. You will find the first page,
New Beginnings and Happy Endings by clicking
here. The second page was specifically made to highlight our Senior adoptees and their gracious families, you can
view it by clicking here.
There are
many Special Care
Dogs that come to
ABTR in such poor conditions but with your support and the loving care of
everyone involved many of them emerge ready to live the life they were intended
to all along. We want to share just a few of their stories to encourage you that
even ONE can make a difference. Be aware that many of the images can be heart
breaking and graphic but the outcome is what it is all about. You can view their
stories by clicking here.
IMPORTANT
At this time, most of our dogs are not kid tested as they have come from sheltersor picked up as
strays. Occasionally, we get a dog that is from a family environmentand in that case, it will
say on the website thisdog is good with kids, etc.If you have kids and are an approved adopter we
will do our best to match a dog with your family that will be compatible with children. However,
we can not guarantee a dog to be kid friendly as we do not have many foster homes with children.
After you are an approved adopter we can cat test a dog you may be interested in. The tests will
only be performed after you have become an approved adopter. Thankyou for your understanding in
this matter.

Other Dogs - Good
SPECIAL NEEDS - None
This is our new boy. He was born. 10-12-07 so he is just over a year old. He gets along great
with all the dogs here. Made himself right at home and got in bed with the rest of the crew last
night. Ilove him!!! He will be an easy boy to place. He came in with the name Abner. I don't
care for it, so I changed it to Absinthe which he is answering to without any problems. Absinthe
was owner surrenedered to a rescue friend of mine. She then transferred him to me after fostering
him for a week.
Here is what Caroline has to say about him quote " I had a friend in a hurry to get rid of one of
her Boston's. She has two, but has had a lot of 'change' in her life recently! I told her to
bring him here. She did give me copies of his vet records! He is the CUTEST little
buggar!! He just turned 1 year old. He has the most BEAUTIFUL markings! He LOVES kids too! He
came from a home with 3 boys, and my girls were on the
swings holding him! Then, he was laying in between them on the floor watching tv last night! This
boy is a VERY VERY SWEET & VERY GENTLE LITTLE SOUL!! He seems very 'mellow' for a 1 year old!!!
He is WONDERFUL with my girls, but they know to be gentle etc!!! He might get really scared if
it is a home with rowdy kids! If they are sweet children - he will adore them! He does have
little brindle highlights - you can see them when in the sun! He is a BEAUTIFUL
Black/White though! He is a TRUE LOVE!!! A DREAM DOG! In the kitchen - where he is sitting ...
he loves to just sit like that and watch whatever it is you're doing! He LOVES the girls! Let's
them snuggle him up & loves to climb in their lap on the floor! As I mentioned, if the
kids are sweet & gentle to him - he would be a HAPPY BOY! He is just so 'mellow', that I worry
if they were too rough, it might scare him!!! I feel you know the breed so well - and you would
make sure his new home is PERFECT ... (or as close as possible) ... so he wouldn't ever have to be
rehomed!! He so deserves to be spoiled rotten! He will melt the heart!!" END OF QUOTE.

This boy is something else. He is a character and a half. He hates being crated and tells you all
about it. HE loves to go and sniff everything. HE loves attention and gets along
with most dogs. He doesn't like other dogs getting in his face. I do believe he
has some healing ulcers on his eyes, Cindy hasn't looked at them yet to tell me
what they are. He can see fine. He has a lot of hair loss across his back like a
lot of them we get that have been covered in fleas and is a bit under nourished
with dry flakey skin. With some good care, love and good food, he will soon be
looking good and ready for a new home. This boy will make someone very happy
because he is energetic and very loving.

This is what the shelter told me. She is an 11mos old female, just turned in by the owner. He
got her as a pup from a breeder. Realized she couldn't hear and after trying to work with her
said he just didn't have the time that was needed.
Jim's update: Got a call this morning that they got an 11 month old girlie in the Tri-City
shelter, so off I go to pick her up, and she certainly lived up to her reputation - she
was boingier than the boingy boys! Cute as a bug, however. She was all over the car and me,
wanting to mouth wrestle as we careened up 67 and I-35 on our way to meet Wanda.
Wanda's Update: Asti is a sweet girl. She is deaf and hasn't had much training and does not know
any hand signals. She is very loving and sweet. Asti is energetic as all young Bostons are. She
is eager to please and with someone who takes the time and effort to show her what is expected of
her, she will bloom into a wonderful dog.

Blackhawk
Blackie has gone to the Rainbow Bridge!
NO longer Available For The Senior For Senior

13 years
Surrendered by owner due to nursing home.
Brindle and White - Haggerty spot
good
markings
Has the cutest long tail
Neutered
Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots.
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia Negative!
Housebroken and wee wee pad trained
A little over 4 years ago, I got a call from a lady who's mother was in a nursing home with
alzheimers disease. Unfortunately her dementia had gotten so bad that she was no longer taking
care of her beloved Blackie so the home said he had to go. The lady told me of her mothers
finding Blackie out on the street as a young dog and how much she loved her Blackie and would
hate to see him put down because she was no longer able to care for him. I went to the nursing
home and picked up this Big old Boston who was scared of me, not at all good on a leash and had
definite ideas about no other dogs being allowed near him.
Blackie was older (around 9-10 years), dog aggressive and not what most of my adopters thought of
as a typical Boston. He was big over 20 lbs and he had a long tail. So that was 4 strikes against
him from the get go as far as adaptability. Over the years that I have had Blackie, he has had a
few inquiries, but no one ever really felt the connection and stepped forward to give the old man
a loving forever home. Blackie injured his eye in the first year he was with us and had to have
it removed so that was another strike on adoptability for him. Then in 2005, he developed some
heart issues and that put him farther down the list of what folks were looking for in a dog to
adopt.
I will have to say that Blackie was a character and over time as I worked with him, I grew to love
him a lot. With a lot of correction and time outs, Blackie learned to tolerate the other dogs and
not try to beat them up every chance he got. After a couple of years, I got to update his
webpages saying he got along with the other dogs well. I had hoped to find him a special someone
to live out his remaining years with. Unfortunately, no one else saw the spirit and the love in
this old man that I did.
Blackie seemed to know that I was his person from the first few days after he got over being
afraid of me, even if I did not. He was always following me around and making sure I was ok.
Blackie was a good dog and I am glad that I was the rescue person who decided to help him.
Blackie started declining over a year ago. He started loosing weight and walked around looking
like a skeleton which made me feel bad, but he was still eating like a horse and everything looked
good, he was just getting the old man skinnies. He was about 13-14 years old. I could call him
and he would come running as fast as his old legs would carry him so he could get his special dins
with the gravy and the pain and heart meds in them. At night when it was bed time, I would say
time for bed and he would go to his bed next to mine and curl up and look up at me waiting for me
to cover him up with his fuzzie fleece. I have done this every night for years now.
Last night Blackie started moaning as if he was in pain so I knew it was time. I could not let him
be in pain no matter how much I wanted to keep him with me. I took him to the vet and had her
help him to find peace. Since he had gotten so fragile, he had no veins so she gave him a shot to
relax him and see if she could make a vein pop up so he wouldn't get upset with her handling him.
I stayed right where he could see me with his little eye and my hand under his chin so he could
lick me and be happy. He loves to give me kisses. Blackie is now at peace and no longer in any
pain, but I shall miss the sweet old boy because I really think that in my heart he became my dog
over the time I had him.
It will be strange going in there tonight for bed and no little one eye boy looking up at me for
his fuzzie and waiting to give me a kiss goodnight. He was always giving me a kiss. He even
gave me kisses today at the vet when I had to tell him goodbye. He didn't want to leave me. For
a little old fart that no one wanted, he was very much beloved by me.
Blackie was worth every penny our rescue spent on him over the years. Yes he took up a space that
another dog more adoptable could have had. BUT.... Blackie deserved the chance to find his
forever home, just as much as one that was more adoptable. I have adopted out dogs I thought NO
ONE in their right minds would adopt, but they did. Blackie was a good dog who deserved the
chance for someone to see the great dog on the inside. Sometimes, sadly, the only person that
sees that great dog is me when they are older or have health issues or are not perfect. But...
Blackie was a great little dog who deserves a little tribute message from someone who loved him.
Be at peace Blackie, Go be one of Bruce's babies in heaven, my Bruce will watch over you until we
meet again.

BRUISER
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Male
20 lbs
2 years old Born 4/8.2006
Owner Surrender from Louisiana
Good markings
Neutered
Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots.
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia
Negative!!!
CATS - No cats or Ducks or Mice either
Children - GOOD, but exuberant
House trained - seems to be trained to the doggie door
Crate trained - yes
Other Dogs - Good
SPECIAL NEEDS - None
Martha's Update: It appears that Bruiser knows how to use the doggie door and knows that he is
suppose to do his business outside - no accidents in the house. He is also coming out of his
shell a bit more - he stole Bud's bone from right in front of him, did a BT 500 around the
kitchen. He is now up on the couch beside me. Bruiser knows how to sit for treats and really
really wants to please me. When I took all the dogs outside last night for one last pee he kept
looking at me trying to decide what i wanted - Ginger and Bud already know - poor little guy was
shivering but eager to please. I'm not sure if he has been walked on a leash/harness before or
not; Ginger&Bud walk out in front of me blazing a trail but the two times we've been out Bruiser
walks behind me or at the most beside me We cut our walk short today because in spite of the blue
fleece Bruiser started to shiver with cold.
Wanda's note: Bruiser has always been well cared for. We have his vet records from the time the
owners got him. He was surrendered because they worked 12 hour days and felt they were crating
him too much. He is crate trained. They also had a 7 year old and an 18 month old child, so he
has been around kids. Bruiser was chastised for jumping on and knocking down the toddler at his
former home, so it may take some encouragement for him to energetically interact with small
children. They felt Bruiser and Sophie (adopted) were too exuberant for the children. This is a
beautiful boy who just needs someone to love him.
12/31/08 update: My sister Sandy and her husband Dan were with me for about four days During that
time Sandy managed to teach Bruiser how to play with toys in the back yard; once he got the hang
of it he decided he really enjoyed it and will now try to steal toys from the other dogs. He has
also discovered the joy of the “kill” and de-stuffing a toy. He gets so very excited when he sees
another dog; his ears go up and he starts his repeated four-legged jumping (about waist high). I
really don’t think the boy was socialized much in the past. Bruiser did well with kids in the
park; a little hesitant but OK. That will take work. He became Dan’s lap buddy; whenever Dan sat
down he wanted to sit with him – rode on his lap in the car. We think Bud scented a mouse in the
grass at the park; he sure looked and sniffed and pounced; pretty soon all three dogs were
looking. Course by then the critter was long gone. Bruiser really liked charging the edge of the
lake to get the ducks to fly up – mighty hunter! Bruiser is going to need some obedience training
and more socialization but he is a really sweet boy; with lots more energy than my other two.
If you would like to contribute to Bruiser's vet bill, please feel free to use
paypal for your payment or you can mail the payment to my vet with the notation

for her. ;) She really is pretty. I can't see why she was dumped, other than she
has some really big lumps on her back and sides. She will look like
Frankendog once we have her operated on to get rid of them. She does have cataracts forming on
her eyes, but she can hear and see.
She is good with the other dogs. She is ok with cats as
she didn't want to chase the cats in the house, but they dont' run from
the dogs either. I would guess her at about 20 lbs. She likes to ride in the car and rode
on my lap very lady like all the way home. This is a very nice older
girl. She has had puppies in the past as she has that look. Today is my
first eveinging with her and I dont' know much more than this. Oh and
she did not like being in the crate and complained about it in the van
which is why I let her out and she rode on my lap.
Champagne had a couple of rotten molars that we took off when we removed her lumps. She looks
like Frankendog right now, but I am sure she is glad to get them off her.

CHRISTMAS JOY
ADOPTION PENDING FOA!
BOXER MIXED WITH SOMEONE'S SNEAKY NEIGHBOR DOG of UNKNOWN TYPE
Female
5lbs
6 weeks 12/15/08 old
Stray Carrollton Shelter
Mismarked
Spayed
Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots.
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia
Negative as she is too young to be positive!!!
CATS - GOOD
Children - Good
House trained - NO
Crate trained - NO
Other Dogs - Good
SPECIAL NEEDS - None
This little one was posted as rescue only at the shelter as they believed she was 4 weeks old.
I don't care too much for puppies, but something about this little one spoke to me, so I went and
pulled her. Dr. Cindy says that she is 6 weeks old and not 4 weeks. So she should
be ready to go in about 3 more weeks around the 1st or 2nd week of January.
This little girl is a pistol. She doesn't want to be toted, she wants to walk herself as she is
an independent little toot. :) We wormed her and gave her her first set of puppy shots already.
She will be wormed again next week and then again when we spay her when she will have her next set
of puppy shots. She is a happy little puppy that is for sure so Joy is a good name for her. Joy
needs all the love and potty and obedience training that any other puppy needs. They do not come
already trained so if you are not ready to invest a lot of time and effort into making her the
best dog you can, look for an older dog. If you are willing to put the time and training into a
dog, then you will have a good dog with this little one. :)

I got a call from Phyllis with the St. Tamminy parrish as she has 2 pups that she wants to
place with us. Story is this lady went with a friend who was gonna buy a puppy to a puppymiller
and the puppymiller talked this other lady into buying a puppy too. She already had 3 dogs and
didn't really want another, but can you say pushover? Anyway when the puppymiller didn't sell the
last puppy she contacted the pushover lady and gave him to her. This lady was getting overwhelmed
in a fema trailer with 3 dogs plus 2 Boston puppies and turned to Phyllis for help. The male
Diamond had an injured eye and has been to the vet to have it seen about. The female was positive
for parvo and we treated the symptoms and both pups survived. They are about 6 months old and
wall eyed. These babies are pretty bonded and I would like them to go together, but they can be
separated as they are not totally dependent on each other. I would like them to go to someone who
has had Bostons experience so you know what to expect from a Boston puppy and the willingness to
obedience and potty train them. Adoption fees for puppies under 9 months is $400.
If you would like to contribute to Diamond's vet bill, please feel free to use

I haven't met Dude yet, I will be picking him up on January 3rd, 2009. QUOTE:
Dude is a 5 year old neutered male Boston Terrier, about 30 lbs.
He's big for a Boston, not overweight, and has no
apparent health issues. Doris has been taking care of Dude
for us, and due to unforeseen circumstances down here with
our new lease home, we are not going to be able to keep him.
He sleeps in a crate at night inside the house. While he is
housebroken, he has been accustomed to spending a lot of time
outside other than at night. He is up to date on all his
shots and heartworm preventative, etc. His birthday is March 22.
We chose Dude from a litter at a breeder in Texas ; he was touted as
purebred, although we don't have any papers on him. We have always
joked that there must have been a boxer in the woodpile, because he's
so big! The only negatives about Dude I can think of is he does
like to dash out the front door if given the chance! He also
likes to grab you with his front legs. When playing Dude
will tackle you if you let him and hold onto you with his front legs/paws.
Perhaps someone with walking issues would not be a good match.
Dude does jump when he gets excited; telling him no and placing a
flat palm in his face seems to get him to stay down.

Eggnog need obedience training like any other puppy. He is not a wild bouncing off the wall boy.

EMMALEE
ADOPTION PENDING FOA !

House trained - seems to be trained to the doggie door
Crate trained - yes

Per Jim, Emmalee's foster daddy: Emilie is about 1 1/2 years old, and was owned by an elderly
woman
who had become bedridden and unable to care for her beloved companion,
and cared enough about her to surrender her to ABTR. She came with the
name, and answers to it, so we kept it.
She is housetrained and is very people-friendly and sweet - however,
she might do best in an only-dog situation, since she is extremely needy
for affection and attention, and will pester you until you let her into
your lap (like she is right now as I type this), or yelp until you pet and
stroke her. She must've been used to being the diva of the house, and not sharing
love with others, though she does get along with my other 4 dogs, both
males and females, but gets a little growly and "mouthy" if I show
affection to any of them when she is present. She does not appear to be
cat-friendly, and gets her hackles up when a neighborhood cat saunters by.
Emilie is very mature in her behavior, but does have a playful Bostie
streak and will engage in the usual Boston Games - tug-of-war, tag and just
general tearing around like crazy, followed by naps and snooze
sessions. She eats relatively slowly compared to my other crew, though is
overweight and presently on a diet to trim down a bit from her 19 pounds. She
should weigh about 16 pounds ideally. Her coat is not in great condition - she
experienced quite a bit of patchy hair loss that could be due to a diet
of empty-calorie generic dogfood with possibly a reaction to flea treatment, but now she
is on many supplements, salmon oil and a regimented amount of high quality
food, so is looking better daily.
She is spayed and was just microchipped, so she is ready to be someone's
very loyal and loving canine companion, with just a little bit of extra
TLC, she will blossom into a gorgeous young lady! She has a really adorable
"smushed face", but doesn't snore or snuffle much as one might think. It will be
really tough to give up this sweet girlie!

FRANCIOLA aka FRANNIE
VET HOLD with ADOPTION PENDING!
Female
15 lbs
2 years old
Shelter
Mismarked
Spayed
Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots.
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia
Postive and has to have treatment before adoption!!!
CATS - not tested
Children - not tested
House trained - seems to be trained to the doggie door
Crate trained - yes
Other Dogs - Good
SPECIAL NEEDS - None
Frannie's foster mom Karen says quote: Frannie came to the LASPCA as a stray, was brought in
by a kind gentleman who found her on the street. She was covered with fleas and very thin. The
shelter kept her for two weeks while they took care of the fleas and evaluated her for adoption.
She developed an upper respiratory infection while at the shelter. We were able to foster her in
New Orleans, and she was treated for the kennel cough and intestinal worms while she gained a few
pounds. She weighed a little less than 11 pounds when we got her and her last weight at one month
in her foster home was a little less that 15 pounds, so she has reached a healthy weight and is
now better prepared for the challenge ahead. She is positive for heartworms and has started on her
Heartguard plus and will begin her staged treatment for adult heartworms in mid January. She has
learned how to play with toys and has gotten along well with her two “resident BT
siblings” after a three week period of adjustment and pecking order scuffles. She is nervous
in new situations, and tends to bark a lot around other people and dogs, especially if she is on a
leash, but we are working on socialization with her. She has just started attending doggie daycare
with her two BT sibs and did fairly well the first day with most of the time spent on the
sidelines, but we celebrate baby steps.
She does not do well with most men, and certain women at the shelter also set her off~ we are
attempting to work with positive reinforcement She has not been around cats, and I am cautious
when introducing her to new people, especially little ones, since her history is unknown and she
seems to be fearful of the approach. I have not seen any food aggression; however she is highly
food motivated. She does a happy dance when it is food time, jumping up and spinning in the air &
eats quickly. She does become a bit growly with certain toys, and seems to want to dominate the
other female BT. They have scuffled but stop immediately when I correct them. The behaviors have
lessened a lot since her spay. They now snuggle more than bicker. She loves attention and wants to
be with you at all times. She comes running when called, wiggling her whole body as she runs
toward you! She might not see as well out of her left eye, the blue one, because she will turn her
head sideways to look at you with her right eye when you are talking to her. I don’t see
evidence of a unilateral hearing loss, so this is good. She is learning to use the doggie door,
she has had a couple of accidents in the house, but we are working on this, too. She seems very
eager to please. She walks well on a leash, loves to go for a ride in the car. She could use
training on manners and obedience, and we are working on it, but she will probably start group
classes once she has completed her heartworm treatment. We will work on things at home until then.
We are crate training and she does well most of the time with it, but when she wants out, she lets
you know, loudly! Her favorite toys are stuffies and tug toys, she does not chew on anything, does
not bolt out of the door, loves salmon treats, does not like to be cold, will not set foot on
snow, will go potty on command for a treat, loves to be snuggled in her blankie on the dog sofa,
enjoys playing in the back yard with the other pups, will sit still for a bath, but not nail
trims, and she is mastering the technique of giving kisses without using her teeth.

paypal for your payment or you can mail the payment to my vet with the notation

Gertrude aka Gertie
Available for Adoption!
Available For The Senior For Senior
Program
Female
14 lbs.
7 years
Stray at Austin Shelter
Black and White Spayed
Up to date on Rabies,Bordatella, and 7 in 1 shots
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia
Positive and has been treated and is ready
to go to a new home!
This sweet little girl was picked up by Pug rescue in Austin and I was contacted to take her. We
did xrays on her back end due to her walking really funny. Poor old Gertie has been shot in the
rear end. Cindy said that she had a big pellet deep in the muscle that she didn't want to dig for
and make her more sore since it wasn't causing her any problems. She does have very bad patellas,
but is not in any pain from them as she doesn't limp just walks bowlegged as heck. since she is
not hurting we are not gonna do any surgery on them. Her hip joints are a little bit wonky as
well. She was also in HEAT!!! Poor old girl. She Won't ever be in heat again that I can tell
you. :) Gertie is a sweet girl who loves to get attention. She is good with the other dogs.
UPDATE 5 1/15/08 - Per Danielle,
Gertie's foster momma - Well, our
little old lady has got some heart problems. Ever
since her 'Big Adventure', Gertie's breathing has been sounding more raspy and rattling. This
morning, she had what I thought was a seizure - she went stiff for a couple seconds, and then
limp and her bladder emptied all over the bed and my sleeping husband! Poor girl! We got her up
to Dr. Cindy this afternoon, and the xrays showed an enlarged heart and congestion in her chest.
We're starting her on some Lasix and Enalapril to see if that helps. Dr. Cindy did an ECG and
found that there are some times when her little heart is just forgetting to *fire* and that may
account for the 'seizure' activity.
Despite her awful breathing, Gertie's energy level hasn't waned...in fact, she's seemed more
active. She romps around like a nut with the pug puppy, and lets everyone know she's still in
charge of any chew toys around. She seems happy and content still, so I hope this medicine will
help give her a continued good quality of life for as long as she's got. She's a precious little
girl. I told Wanda that it just KILLS me the way Gertie has been hacking and coughing and
wheezing ALL weekend....and her breathing was just perfect today when we saw the doctor. It's
like taking your car to the mechanic!
If you would like to contribute to Gertie's vet bill, please feel free to use paypal for your

HATHAWAY
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Male
23.3 lbs
4-7 years old
Waco Shelter
Good markings
Neutered
Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots.
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia
Positive - began treatment 11/10/08 and should be ready for adoption around 12/10/08!!!
CATS - OK with Cats
Children - not tested
House trained - seems to be trained to the doggie door
Crate trained - yes
Other Dogs - Good
SPECIAL NEEDS - None
Jim's update: For reasons that will become apparent, the new old boy from
Waco I've christened Hathaway - in direct conflict with the
liquor/liqueur/cocktail theme - he has one eye (his left), so
it just seemed fitting he should be named after a dapper,
one-eyed gentleman, like the Hathaway shirt ad man!
He is alleged to be 5 or 6 years old, though his frosty brows
and butt would tend to make him appear older. I was told he
was not adjusting to shelter life and was quite nervous and
frightened. Well, you can't go by me, since he was a laid-back
traveller, sleeping most of the way in the booster seat, with
occasional ear rubs and pats on his head, which he enjoyed
and leaned into for greater pressure.
Hathaway was dirty, had huge long claws, so after his meal
(which was devoured), he got a CapStar, his nails trimmed,
and a long bubble bath in deodorant flea soap. He LOVED
the apres bath towel-off session, and rolled around on the
bedroom rug like a maniac, enjoying being clean and free!
He and Beau have now become roughhousing playmates
and it was almost impossible to get him to stand still for a
photo, as you'll see in the attached shots! He certainly has
come out of his purported shell, and is quite the personality
and play-boy
He has a crusty scab on his left butt cheek which seems
about ready to come off, and a few bumps and clumps
on his coat, but looks 100% better after his bath. I believe
he has a wart or growth on his neck, right about where
the collar rests, but he's running amok and doesn't want
to let me give him a detailed exam right now - I'd rather he
be allowed to play, romp and stomp since he evidently has
plenty to make up for lost time!
Wanda's update: Hathaway is a wonderful dog. He plays well with others. We started him on his
heartworm treatment and he seems to be doing well so far, but has to be kept crated and calm so he
doesn't knock any dying segments loose and cause an embolism. Once we get those nasty heartworms
cleared out, this boy is gonna make someone a wonderful friend.

She was adopted from GPAS in June or July, then returned yesterday because she was destructive
in the house and kept escaping, but the ACO thought she was returned because they Knew they were
going to get a warrant served on them as they hadn't returned paperwork saying they had spayed her
yet. IF they had bothered to take her to the vet, the vet would have told them she was already
spayed. Sheesh. SOME People!!! So far this little one has stuck pretty close by me and doesn't
seem to want to escape and I don't see her being destructive yet, but it is her first day so she
may surprise me, but then again the people always have to have some excuse so it is the dog's
fault they return them and not just because they don't want a shelter to think they are not good
dog owners.
Merry is not a puppy, probably 5-8 years of age. Seems to be fairly sedate. The vet verified that
she is already spayed. She could stand to gain a few pounds. She was good in the crate on the
way home so I think she is crate trained. Miss Merry loves to play in the water when you are using
the hose. She also likes to chase the light from the flashlight. This girl has personality and
that Boston zing that attracts people to them. This girl is a winner and she lets everyone know
that she is special.

looking for him, he gave him to Denise. The Person who found him had thought about keepig him,
but they decided against it. Mallory and I named him Michelob and are calling him Mickey. We
gave him a bath, but his skin is really flaky. This is the best puppy I have ever fostered. Such
a good little boy. I put him in the kennel last night and not a peep was heard all night. I got
him up this morning and his kennel was dry. He went out and pooped and peed and came back in
ready to snuggle. He is going to make someone a great dog I would say and a love. He is really
good on the leash and sweet-natured. Gets along with all the dogs here and loves people. We just
took him downtown for the Christmas Festival and he was great. Loved everyone he met!

This is what the shelter told me quote: She is a two year old female Boxer who we found tied
to the flag pole in front of our shelter one morning. She is a good girl who gets along with other
dogs, does well on a leash and has good manners. She has no vaccination history that we know of,
and she is also in heat right now.
Wanda's Update: Midori was left tied to their flag pole and got loose and they tried to catch her
for 5 days before she got hungry enough to come up. She was in full nasty heat. Other than that
we really have no details. This is a VERY nice Boxer girl. She is very well muscled. She is
smaller than she looks in the pix. They say she is about 2- 3 years old and put her in at 2.5
years on paperwork. She is GORGEOUS!!! Even if she is that Brindle I don't like.
She didn't try to pull me down on the leash. She was ready to jump right in the van into the
crate so she has been crate trained. With a bit of time and training this girl is gonna make
someone an excellent Boxer. She is real happy to be getting some attention. She does NOT know how
to use the doggie door and it is too damn cold to teach her tonight. But I think she will pick it
up quickly. She seems real eager to please me.
There has been a little rumbling from her at the other dogs, but when I say Dori no, she shuts up.
IT is very overwhelming at my house with 20 little and big dogs sticking their noses up your
behind if you are a dog and if you have been in heat, you don't want nobody messing with that
behind for a while. She doesn't seem to be real food aggressive either. Grumbled a little when
she was scarfing it down and dogs were sniffing her behind that could have been the butt sniffing
eliciting the growls to keep off. I was shoveling food in the bowls and she had no problems with
my hands down near her face to put food in the bowl.

I got a call from a rescue friend of mine asking if I could help with this little girl. She
said quote: ".I recieved a call from a very nice lady and I told her I'd pass on the message.
Someone gifted her a boston terrier puppy because she is going through a divorce and they thought
it would be helpful but ... dog (female) is approximately 5-6 months. Only had the dog a week
and a half. She doesn't have time to properly care for the dog. Had her last dog 18 years but
works and is gone 10-12 hours a day. Doesn't want to take the dog to a shelter. Lives in
Commerce Texas. end of quote.
This is a sweet little puppy. The lady's son got her as a gift but he worked a lot so he gave it
to his monther as a gift. Poor baby no telling where else she has lived before they got her. She
gets along with the lady's grandkids so is ok with kids. That is about all the info I have on he
as I took her straight to the vet when I picked her up. She is at the vet being seen now and I
will know more after I pick her up tomorrow. I may not have time to update this for a few days.
Since she is a puppy, her adoption fee is $400.

OLD FITZGERALD aka FITZIE
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Available For The Senior For Senior
Program
Male
13 lbs
10 years old
Stray at GPAS Shelter
Good markings
Neutered
Up to date on Bordatella, Rabies, and 7 in 1 shots.
Heartworm/lyme/erlichia
Positive, since he is old and in very sad shape, we will be doing the long term heartworm
treatment on this guy so he may not be ready to adopt for 6 months or more!!!
CATS - ok
Children - not tested
House trained - Seems to be to the doggie door
Crate trained - yes
Other Dogs - Good until they try to eat his dinner and he lets them know that is his food
SPECIAL NEEDS - Balance - Arthritis in spinal disc and hip
I noticed immediately when we picked him up that this little guy has something major going on
with his walking/rear end. HE walks really funny and seems to loose balance and fall over. He
may have been hit by a car or something. But he manages to get from point A to Point B and like a
small child he wants to do it himself! It is hard to describe his getting there walk as it is
kinda on his toes and side ways in a strange gait kinda tottery looking. This poor little boy is
in SAD shape.
We named him Old Fitzgerald and are calling him Fitzie. He is a very pretty little guy. Skinny as
hell. I sure hope we can fix him up if not he will stay with us until his time comes. He is
supposed to be 10 years old per the shelter and a Stray. The vet says "I just looked at Old
Fitzgerald's Xrays and he has a lot of disc problems and arthritis in his loin area. Probably
enough in the upper loin to cause his instability. See if etogesic helps but probably he will
remain with some degree of stiffness and instability." So he will never be "normal", but he is
still a very affectionate and wonderful little guy. He is a character. When you feed him and he
is done (fed in separate room so other dogs don't steal his soft food) he will bark until you come
and let him out. Despite his wierd mobility, he goes in and out the doggie door as he likes to
sun on the deck in the mornings. He also likes his very soft bed. This boy may not move
normally, but he is normal in every since of the word as far as Boston character and Boston
lovings. I will only adopt this boy out to someone who loves the old farts as much as I do.
If you would like to contribute to Fitzie's vet bill, please feel free to use
paypal for your payment or you can mail the payment to my vet with the notation

They are about 6 months
old and wall eyed. The female Patsy was positive for parvo and we treated the symptoms for both
pups and both pups survived. These babies are pretty bonded and I would like them to go together,
but they can be separated as they are not totally dependent on each other. I would like them to go
to someone who has had Bostons experience so you know what to expect from a Boston puppy and the
willingness to obedience and potty train them. Adoption fees for puppies under 9 months is $400.
If you would like to contribute to Patsy's care and vet bill, please feel free to use
paypal for your payment or you can mail the payment to my vet with the notation

Dr. We named her Peeps because she has a little arfy bark that she just chirps at you. Cindy
says Peeps is one of the most neglected and malnoursished dogs ABTR has gotten. She was a little
doubtful at first if she would survive. It took a while to build her back up. She was anemic
and had a high white cell count. She was on antibiotics and we had to feed her up for quite for
a while before she would gain any weight. This little dog is frail. She is the silliest little
old girl. She just dances for you when you talk to her and she thinks you are gonna give her some
yummies. Peeps don't have a lick of sense, and she doesn’t see real well, but she is
always happy even though she forgets she just ate. Can you see that smiling little face? I swear
if I fed Peeps as often as peeps thought she needed fed, she would look like a blimp. Peeps only
eats canned food due to her teeth and being just a wee bit senile. .I think she forgets she just
ate when she starts dancing around asking for dinner right after I have fed her. .Either that or
she thinks she needs to eat all the time. She is looking good and is not skinny little scarecrow
like she was when I got her. Peeps is NOT housebroken and will not be as she is senile. She is
safe here until she passes or until someone sees how wonderful her love of life is to be around.
NO children under 12 and no big rambunctious dogs will be in Peeps new home. ,
If you would like to contribute to Peeps's vet bill, please feel free to use
paypal for your payment or you can mail the payment to my vet with the notation

Martha's update: This boy was suppose to be about 10 months old He hated being in the
little crate - next time I'm gonna bring the big one. A sweet boy - absolutely loved it when you
talked directly to him; kept looking up at me for approval; don't think he'd been on a
halter/leash much.
Wanda's Update: Rico is a very sweet boy who is very bully in appearance. HE just wants to be
loved. HE is like any other puppy that hasn't had any training and needs to go to obedience
school as we recommend with all our dogs even the adults. Rico has learned to go in and out the
doggie door. He is as sweet as can be seeking love and approval and very puppyish in behavior.
This boy is an excellent candidate for someone who wants a happy little guy to play with.
If you would like to contribute to Rico's vet bill, please feel free to use
paypal for your payment or you can mail the payment to my vet with the notation

This is what the ACO said about him quote: Here is the little cutie. he is a small bit
underweight, which just could be from being young and not filled out yet. He talks to you, and
cries like a BABY!! It sounds so funny. So far, no one has called for him,
Jims update: Hope we haven't had a Schnapps yet - this little guy
is just as spicy and spirited as the beverage! He is GORGEOUS and more
snuggly/cuddly than any
dog I've had the pleasure to meet. He curled in my lap
for the ride home and just swooned to get ear and
back scratches and lovin'!
He weighs 15 | | |
